Anna Zimmermann has just come through what she calls a ?gut-wrenching? experience of COVID-19, both as a doctor and as a parent. Zimmermann and her son Lincoln were isolated at Denver?s Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children after Lincoln tested positive for the illness. There, she documented his coughing and struggles to breathe, sending video to her husband, who was at home with their other children. Zimmermann is a neonatologist, and she described her and Lincoln?s experience on her site, Mighty Littles. ?As a doctor, I knew he was working hard to breathe,? she wrote. ?The medical terms used to describe respiratory distress ? seesaw breathing, nasal flaring, grunting, retracting, tachypneic ? he had them all. As a mom, it was torture watching him struggle.? Lincoln has now left hospital and is back to his ?playful self,? Zimmermann says. ?Please stay safe. Please stay healthy,? she?s urged readers of her blog. ?Please take this virus seriously ? it is no joke.?
